Kwai, Nidobak
I am very excited to have found a series of Colewood wood burning pens on sale and to find the Colewood web site for future use. I have been experimenting with a variety of wood burning tools beginning with the hobby versions found in such places as Michael's Crafts and other similar stores. While it is decent, there is no way to control the heat which limits the quality of its use.

As you can see, I was very happy to find a Burnmaster control box with a dual outlet. This allows for two pens to be plugged in at once. With just the flip of a switch I can change pens. There is a spring holder on top to rest hot pens not in use.
Some of the pens I tried were ones that had chords attached to them. This made storage very awkward and took up a lot of room. It also took up a great deal of space on my work table when I wanted to keep several pens at hand.
By changing to the Colewood Pens, I can keep two chords plugged into the control box and simply change pens on the end of the chord. Just plug and unplug from the end of the pen . Now I can keep them readily at hand in a stand I found second hand. They can also be purchased on the Colewood site, but I was lucky enough to find these and paid about $1 for both of them.
I have a couple of older pens which required an adaptor (for pen to chord) and that, too, is readily available on line.
There are many different pen companies available on line and other gourders have their preferances which may be different. But I have had these pens only a few weeks and am extremely happy with them.
When selecting the pens, read their intended use carefully. It will greatly help in selecting what you need. The best one is to start out with one that states it is good for beginners or general use. Work with it, and then decide what it won't do for you before selecting the next pen that will help fill that void.
It has taken me a while to decide that I like woodburning, but now I am in love with it. If you ever liked drawing with pen and ink, this is a wonderful alternative.
Happy woodburning,
Morningstar
