A combination of ballet and NA footwork, the results is that the dancer never appears to fully touch the ground. In this case the dancer used colorful ribbons for her shawl's fringe and as the wind blew, so did the ribbons so she appeared to be "Dancing on the Wind". The background is mist of mountains and field. Item measures 16" in height (20" with stand) and is 8" in diameter. The pot was blackened to represent the primitive use of gourds as pots into which hot stones would have been placed to heat the liquids inside. Such pots would not have been placed over a fire. Wherever there were corn fields, there were sunflowers also. Their seeds provided high nutrients during winter months. The gourd is wood burned and cut through giving a 3-D effect. Created: 2007. It has been wood burned and left with a light coloring to emphasize the gourds own natural patterns. Design within the double curve indicates a lodge between two hills with a heart above it. Hearts are believed to have been introduced in NA art after contact. The rim is Sweetgrass which was used to create beautiful baskets which are still being made and sold by Natives of the Northeast and the Wabanaki People. Created: 2009. Fields were cleared and large numbers of acres were planted. Seed was removed from the husks and buried in the ground to provide food for the winter and seed for the next year's planting.
